My Approach

I like to work creatively with my counselling clients, I work in a flexible and client centred way and adapt my therapeutic interventions to suit the age, need and goals of the client. I work from a Psychodynamic, Attachment and Trauma Informed Framework. These therapeutic perspectives guide the way I deliver interventions and the direction of therapy.

I believe that exploring and uncovering unconscious processes and bringing awareness to these can support the individual can make positive changes in their future relationships. I also believe that the experience of a secure and safe relationship can be healing for the individual, and focus strongly on the attachment experience of my clients, with the intention of offering them a different experience to that which they often have come to know as normal.

When working with children I focus on providing a space where they can feel heard, safe and understood. I believe that children exist as a part of their wider family system, and that the inclusion or consideration of family members is an important part of supporting a child to make changes.  This draws on a family systems approach, and may mean that the intervention involves additional family members or safe adults (eg. parents, partners, family members, schools).

Some of the key therapeutic interventions I work with are:

- Non Directive/Child Centred Play Therapy

- Directive Play Therapy

- Sand Tray/Sand Play Therapy

- Art Therapy

- Trauma Focused CBT

- Attachment Focused Family Therapy

- Psychodynamic Therapy

- Internal Family Systems Therapy

- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

- Solution Focused Therapy â€‹

- Narrative Therapy

- Animal Assisted Therapy

My Clinical Supervision style is person centred, trauma informed and incorporates creative expressive and Internal Family Systems concepts.  My passion is supporting counsellors who work with children and adolescents, however Supervisees from all areas are welcome to reach out to find out if I am the right fit for their developing practice.
